MEDICAL MISSIONS PHILIPPINES

The vision of providing health care and bringing the Good News to the tribal people began before Dr. E. Sarmiento was a physician.  In the early 50s while he was an interim pastor of a mountain church, he saw the great need of health care among the mountain people.  In 1959 he was led by the Lord to study medicine.  After earning his M.D. degree in 1964 he returned to the tribal areas and a year after married Dr. Elam Franco, an internist-cardiologist who had just returned from U.S. training.  They served as a team in the tribal town of Banaue, Ifugao.  Later, other medical people became involved and Medical Missions Philippines was born.  It started with one medical station in Bunhian, Ifugao called "The Hilgendorf Memorail Clinic" providing health care and sharing the Gospel.  Since then, other mediccal stations have been established and developed health care programs to meet the needs of the people.
